Patrol Division has an authorized strength of 39 Deputy Sheriffs; 7 Sergeants and 32 Deputy Sheriffs currently provide law enforcement and other community services based out of the Law Enforcement Center at 320 W 4th Street, Sioux Falls, SD.
The Sheriff’s Office provides 24/7 law enforcement service to Minnehaha County. Deputies in the Patrol Division provide timely response to over 23,000 yearly calls for service, which include crimes against property, assaults, domestic violence incidents, and other crimes against people. Deputies maintain a visible law enforcement presence, serve arrest warrants, and serve civil papers. Deputies also respond to accidents and medical emergencies.
In keeping with the Minnehaha County Sheriff’s Office philosophy of Community Policing, deputies work to identify community issues and facilitate community involvement in developing solutions. Most deputies are assigned to specific areas to encourage familiarity with the municipalities and residents. Deputies attend many special events in the communities.
The Minnehaha County Sheriff’s Office provides Law Enforcement services to eight towns: Baltic, Colton, Crooks, Dell Rapids, Garretson, Hartford, Humboldt, and Valley Springs. Deputy Sheriffs in the Patrol Division also provide vital support to all of the other divisions at the Sheriff's Office as well as assistance to other local, state, and federal law enforcement officers. Minnehaha County is 810 square miles, has ten incorporated municipalities, and has a population of nearly 183,000 residents.
