The Investigations Division is comprised of a specialized group of deputy sheriffs who are responsible for investigating crimes which occur within Minnehaha County. These crimes include, but are not limited to, sexual assault, aggravated assault, burglary, child abuse, theft, missing persons, and death investigations. After investigations are completed, the detectives assist the State’s Attorney’s Office with prosecution.
Within the division are detectives who specialize in Narcotics, Internet Crimes Against Children, and Domestic Violence. The detectives have received advanced and specialized training in, among others, interviewing (including child forensic interviewing), crime scene analysis, arson, polygraph examinations, and photography.
Sheriff’s Office detectives have also partnered with other agencies within South Dakota and the surrounding states in the investigation of burglaries, robberies, vehicle thefts, and homicides.
